Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the cream cheese frosting:
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, mix the granulated sugar and melted butter until well combined.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing after each addition, then stir in the red food coloring and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few crumbs.
  8. Allow the brownies to cool completely before frosting.
  9. For the frosting: In a bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla, beating until creamy.
  10. Spread the frosting over the cooled brownies and cut into squares.
