Ingredients

For the Crust:

  • 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar.
  3. Add the eggs, vanilla extract, buttermilk, and vegetable oil. Beat until the mixture is smooth.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  5. Let the cakes cool completely before spreading the strawberry slices and cream between the layers.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
