Description

A rich and moist cake combining chocolate and coffee flavors for a decadent dessert.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee granules
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, instant coffee, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting if desired.

Notes

For a stronger mocha flavor, increase the instant coffee to 2 tablespoons. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
