For the Crust:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  4. Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth and evenly mixed.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. For the ganache, heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan until simmering. Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips, stirring until smooth.
  8. On a serving plate, place one cake layer. Spread a layer of sliced strawberries over it, then drizzle some ganache.
  9. Place the second cake layer on top and cover the entire cake with the remaining ganache. Arrange additional sliced strawberries on top for decoration.
