For the Crust:
- 1 box vanilla cake mix (plus required oil, eggs, and water)
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Green gel food coloring
- 24 small star-shaped candies
- Assorted round sprinkles for ornaments
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Prepare and bake vanilla cupcakes according to package directions. Allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
- For the frosting, beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Beat on high until light and fluffy. Add green food coloring until desired tree color is achieved.
- Fit a piping bag with a star tip. Fill the bag with green frosting. Pipe the frosting onto each cupcake in a conical, tree-like shape, starting from the outside and working inward.
- Immediately decorate with round sprinkles as ornaments and top each tree with a star candy.
