Description

Festive shortbread cookies with maraschino cherries, perfect for Christmas.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped maraschino cherries
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Additional powdered sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
  4. Gradually add the flour, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chopped maraschino cherries.
  6. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place on ungreased cookie sheets.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
  8. Allow cookies to cool, then roll in powdered sugar.

Notes

Drain cherries well before chopping to avoid excess moisture.
