For the Crust:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Royal icing and sprinkles for decorating
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
- Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until a smooth dough forms.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into shapes with holiday cookie cutters.
- Place cookies 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheets. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are just lightly golden. Let cool completely before decorating.
