Description

Classic, buttery sugar cookies that hold their shape perfectly for decorating. A festive holiday treat for the whole family.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.
  3. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a smooth dough forms. Divide the dough in half, shape into discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). On a floured surface, roll out one disc of dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into shapes with holiday cookie cutters.
  5. Place cookies 1 inch apart on parchment-lined baking sheets. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are just barely golden. Let cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Decorate as desired.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
