Description

A classic Southern dish featuring tenderized steak breaded and fried to golden perfection, served with gravy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cube steaks (about 1 1/2 pounds)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • For the gravy:
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Pound the cube steaks to 1/4-inch thickness using a meat mallet.
  2. Step 2: In a shallow bowl, mix together 1 cup flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  3. Step 3: In another bowl, whisk together eggs and 1/4 cup milk.
  4. Step 4: Dredge each steak in the flour mixture, then dip in the egg mixture, and coat again in flour.
  5. Step 5: Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry steaks for 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. Step 6: For the gravy: In the same skillet, whisk 1/4 cup flour into the drippings. Gradually add 2 cups milk, whisking constantly. Cook until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Step 7: Serve steaks with gravy on top.

Notes

Ensure oil is hot before frying for a crispy coating. Pairs well with mashed potatoes.
