Description
A classic Italian dish featuring steak simmered in a flavorful tomato sauce with herbs and vegetables.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 beef steaks (such as sirloin or round steak), about 1-inch thick
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 bell pepper, sliced
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/2 cup beef broth or red wine
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Season the steaks with salt and black pepper on both sides.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steaks and sear for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Sauté for 4-5 minutes until softened.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, and beef broth. Bring to a simmer.
- Return the steaks to the skillet, spooning the sauce over them. Cover and simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes until the steaks are cooked to desired doneness.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
