Description

A classic Italian dish featuring steak simmered in a flavorful tomato sauce with herbs and vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 beef steaks (such as sirloin or round steak), about 1-inch thick
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or red wine
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Season the steaks with salt and black pepper on both sides.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steaks and sear for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Sauté for 4-5 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, and beef broth. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Return the steaks to the skillet, spooning the sauce over them. Cover and simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes until the steaks are cooked to desired doneness.
  6. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

For a more authentic flavor, use fresh herbs if available. Pair with pasta or crusty bread.
