For the Crust:
- 4 beef cube steaks
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 3 cups milk
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- In a shallow dish, combine flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Dip each steak in buttermilk, then dredge in the flour mixture.
- Fry steaks in the hot oil until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter, stir in 1/4 cup of the leftover flour mixture, and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in milk, stirring constantly until thickened to make the gravy.
- Serve the fried steaks topped with homemade gravy.
