- 200g all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 200ml beer or sparkling water
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and cut into chips
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
- Gradually add beer to the flour mixture, whisking until smooth to form the batter.
- Pat the cod fillets dry and dip them into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pan to 180°C.
- Fry the battered fish for 4-5 minutes until golden and crispy; remove and drain on paper towels.
- For the chips, parboil the potato slices for 5 minutes, then fry until golden.
- Serve the fish and chips hot with lemon wedges and tartar sauce.
Notes
For a lighter version, use sparkling water instead of beer. Ensure oil is hot to avoid soggy batter.
