Description

Delightfully buttery and soft sugar cookies cut into cheerful Christmas tree shapes and decorated with vibrant green icing and colorful sprinkles.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • Green royal icing
  • Assorted festive sprinkles and sugar pearls

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until a dough forms.
  3. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use Christmas tree-shaped cookie cutters to cut out shapes. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets.
  4. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until edges are just golden. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. Once completely cool, decorate the cookies with green royal icing and an assortment of festive sprinkles and sugar pearls to look like ornaments.

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
