Description

Classic holiday cookies flavored with ginger and spices, perfect for decorating and sharing.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and baking soda.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the molasses and egg until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
  8. Cut out gingerbread man shapes and place on the prepared baking sheets.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are lightly browned.
  10. Cool on wire racks before decorating.

Notes

These cookies can be decorated with royal icing and candies for a festive touch. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
