Description

A flavorful and moist turkey burger topped with sweet and tangy balsamic onions and melted provolone cheese, served on a toasted bun.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 1 lb ground turkey (93% lean)
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 burger buns, toasted

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, panko, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Form into 4 equal patties.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes until soft and golden.
  3. Add the balsamic vinegar and brown sugar to the onions. Stir to combine and cook for another 5 minutes until the onions are caramelized and the vinegar has reduced. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the turkey patties and cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until cooked through and a thermometer reads 165ยฐF.
  5. Place a slice of provolone cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt. Serve the burgers on toasted buns, topped generously with the balsamic caramelized onions.
