For the Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the sugar and whisk until combined.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth and thin. Pour evenly into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
