A twist on the traditional red velvet cake, this vibrant purple cake is moist, flavorful, and perfect for any celebration.

For the Crust:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon purple food coloring

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, oil, eggs, food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
