For the Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Assorted colored sugar or sprinkles

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix into the creamed mixture until just combined.
  4. Roll the dough into small balls and place on the prepared baking sheet. Press gently to flatten slightly and sprinkle with colored sugar or sprinkles.
  5. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Cool on a wire rack.
