Description

These savory shortbread bites combine sharp cheddar cheese and spicy jalapenos for a flavorful twist on a classic treat, perfect for appetizers or snacks.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 fresh jalapenos, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, cheddar cheese, butter, jalapenos, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until a dough forms.
  2. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness and cut into bite-sized shapes using a cookie cutter.
  5. Place the shapes on the prepared baking sheet and brush with the beaten egg.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool before serving.

Notes

For a spicier version, leave the seeds in the jalapenos. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
