Description

This easy recipe recreates Sbarro’s famous mama’s meatballs with a simple spaghetti sauce, perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cans (28 oz each) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Remove meatballs from skillet and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  6. Add crushed tomatoes, basil, and oregano. Bring to a simmer.
  7. Return meatballs to the skillet and simmer for 20-25 minutes, until meatballs are cooked through.
  8. Serve over cooked spaghetti.

Notes

For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes to the sauce. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
