Description

A delicious Southern side dish featuring sweet onions baked with a cheesy, savory topping.


Ingredients

For the Crust:

  • 4 large sweet onions
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC).
  2. Peel and cut a small slice off the top and bottom of each onion, then make a shallow cross-cut on the top.
  3. Place onions in a baking dish, sprinkle with salt and pepper, then top with cheese and breadcrumbs. Dot with butter.
  4. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes until the topping is golden brown.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
