Description

A rich and moist chocolate cake topped with a decadent chocolate frosting and loaded with colorful M&Ms.

For the Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 cups M&Ms
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup milk

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
  4. Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. Pour evenly into the prepared pans.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  6. For the frosting, beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, alternating with milk, until smooth.
  7. Assemble the cake by spreading frosting between the layers and on top. Decorate with M&Ms before serving.
