For the Crust:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 2 cups M&Ms
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/3 cup milk
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, mix together flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
- Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. Pour evenly into the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, alternating with milk, until smooth.
- Assemble the cake by spreading frosting between the layers and on top. Decorate with M&Ms before serving.
