Ingredients

- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Gel food coloring (pink, red, purple)
- Royal icing for decorating
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla.
- Gradually add flour mixture to butter mixture, stirring until combined. Divide dough and tint with food coloring.
- Wrap dough in plastic and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out dough on a floured surface and cut into heart shapes.
- Place cookies on baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes. Cool completely.
- Decorate with royal icing and let set.
