Description

Delicious sugar cookies shaped like conversation hearts, perfect for Valentine’s Day, decorated with royal icing in fun messages.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Gel food coloring (pink, red, purple)
  • Royal icing for decorating

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla.
  3. Gradually add flour mixture to butter mixture, stirring until combined. Divide dough and tint with food coloring.
  4. Wrap dough in plastic and chill for at least 1 hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out dough on a floured surface and cut into heart shapes.
  6. Place cookies on baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes. Cool completely.
  7. Decorate with royal icing and let set.

Notes

Ensure cookies are fully cooled before decorating to prevent icing from melting. Store in an airtight container.
