- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, pureed
- Red food coloring, as needed
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease three 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
- Divide the batter into three bowls; leave one plain, mix strawberry puree into the second, and add food coloring to the third for the ombre effect.
- Pour each batter into a separate pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool the cakes completely, then layer with strawberry buttercream frosting, starting with the darkest layer at the bottom.
Notes
For the best ombre effect, adjust the food coloring gradually. Use fresh strawberries for a vibrant flavor.
